Mw. drs. A.Th.B. Bijleveld-Schouten, Commissaris van de Koningin in de provincie Overijssel

Ank Bijleveld-Schouten is vanaf 1 januari 2011 Commissaris van de Koningin in Overijssel. Zij was Tweede Kamerlid voor het CDA en staatssecretaris van Binnenlandse Zaken (februari 2007-oktober 2010). In dit kabinet was zij onder andere verantwoordelijk voor de opheffing van de Nederlandse Antillen en de vorming van Bonaire, Sint Eustatius en Saba tot bijzondere Nederlandse gemeenten.

Ank Bijleveld-Schouten is geboren op 17 maart 1962 in IJsselmuiden. Na het gymnasium studeerde zij Bestuurskunde aan de toenmalige TH Twente.

Ze begon haar politieke loopbaan als raadslid in Enschede (1986-1989), werd in 1989 na de formatie van het kabinet Lubbers III lid van de Tweede Kamer. In 2001 werd Ank Bijleveld-Schouten burgemeester van de fusiegemeente Hof van Twente. In datzelfde jaar werd zij benoemd tot Ridder in de Orde van Oranje-Nassau. In 2007 werd Ank Bijleveld-Schouten staatssecretaris van Binnenlandse Zaken en Koninkrijksrelaties in het kabinet Balkenende IV.

Ank Bijleveld-Schouten was als burgemeester van Hof van Twente de enige vrouwelijke burgemeester in Overijssel. Nu zijn er drie, nog altijd een achterstand. Bijleveld: "Ik zal er zeker rekening mee houden in de selectie van kandidaten. De samenleving bestaat tenslotte niet alleen uit mannen, maar uit mannen en vrouwen."

Mrs. drs.  Ank Bijleveld-Schouten (1962) is appointed by Her Majesty Queen Beatrix of The Netherlands as Queen's Commissioner (Governor) of the Province of Overijssel as from January 1 ^st , 2011. In this capacity she is chairwoman of the Regional Parliament and the Executive Board of Overijssel, the Netherlands (populuation 1.2 million). In the summer of 2011, she was also appointed by the Dutch Government as chairwoman of the National Committee 200 years Kingdom of the Netherlands (to be celebrated/commemorated in 2013-2015).

Mrs. Bijleveld recieved her Master's degree in Public Administration at the University of Twente in 1985. She started her career in public service as a civil servant at the municipality of Hengelo, Overijssel. In 1986 she was elected as a local counsillor for the Christian Democratic Party (CDA) in the municipality of Enschede, Overijssel. In 1989 she was elected as a Member of Parliament (Tweede Kamer). In 2001 she was appointed as Mayor of the municipality of Hof van Twente, Overijssel, where she held office until 2007, when she was appointed as Secretary of State for the Home Office and Kingdom Relations of the Netherlands in the 4^th Cabinet of Prime Minister Jan Peter Balkenende. In this capacity, she led the largest project of the Cabinet Balkenende: the dissolvement of the former Netherlands Antilles on October 10, 2010, resulting in two new constituent countries, the islands of Curaçao and Sint Maarten, with Bonaire, Sint Eustatius and Saba joining the Netherlands as special municipalities. She took part in the negotiations, following the national elections in summer 2010, that eventually led to the Cabinet of Prime Minister Mark Rutte.

In 2001, Mrs. Ank Bijleveld-Schouten was knighted in the Order of Oranje-Nassau.
